Heart of Wales Shogi Open 2023 – A tournament in harmony with nature
Welcome to an exciting review of the Heart of Wales Shogi Open, which took place on May 26, 2023. The tournament was an impressive event with 14 dedicated participants from different parts of the world including Malaya, Germany, UK, Germany/Ukraine, Japan, Italy/Bulgaria and Sweden.
The event was organized by Uwe Frischmuth of the Hamburg Shogi Federation and recognized by the UK Shogi Federation. It was gratifying to see players from different countries and cultures come together to share their passion for shogi.
The Heart of Wales Shogi Open took place at the picturesque Nant y Walch Barn, located in a small valley between the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains – an area of outstanding natural beauty. What made this venue truly unique, however, was its sustainable approach. The barn is completely CO2 neutral and draws its energy from a small hydroelectric plant. This supplies the water pumps to heat the underfloor heating and for the lighting.
It was inspiring to see shogi players not only demonstrate their strategic skills, but also show an awareness of the environment. The Heart of Wales Shogi Open is a shining example of how sport and sustainability can harmonize.
We would like to sincerely thank Uwe Frischmuth and the tournament organizers for their efforts in putting on such a remarkable event. Their commitment to shogi and environmental awareness is admirable.
We congratulate all the participants for their outstanding performances and passion for shogi. Such events help to strengthen the international shogi community and spread the beauty of this fascinating game worldwide.
We are already looking forward to the next Heart of Wales Shogi Open and are eager to see more exciting tournaments where shogi and sustainability are in harmony.
Until then, we wish all shogi enthusiasts a lot of fun playing and an awareness for our precious environment!
